Slovenian or Slovene is the official language of Slovenia, a country which achieved its independence in 1991 following the breakup of the former Yugoslavia.

It is a member of the South Slavic group of languages and is spoken by around 2.5 million people, most of whom live in Slovenia.

It is written in a modified version of the Latin script.
